Laundry Day

Laundry is an inevitable part of life. Realizing that many years ago, I decided that the only way to tackle the job was to simply enjoy it. There is nothing positive about agonizing over laundry day. When I am doing laundry, instead of focusing on the unending repetitiveness of the task at hand, I think of how nice it must be for my family to always be able to reach into a drawer or closet and find clean clothes waiting for them. I enjoy seeing them walk around the house with socks that are white and clean. I also enjoy thinking of the simple pleasure that comes with using a fresh clean towel. This is an opportunity that I can give to my family and create a comfortable and pleasing atmosphere for them.

My personal laundry schedule is to gather up all of the laundry on Mondays and Thursdays. That seems to work out just fine for us. I try to get through all of it as quickly as I can before the next Monday or Thursday rolls around. Speaking of which, today is Thursday ..... I guess I had better begin my task of which I truly don't mind a bit doing.

What a blessing and encouragement! For me laundry is one of those overwhelming....never really get-it-done kind of chores I spend too much time dreading. And we've lived a few episodes of not having what we need for the simple fact of it isn't clean yet. I am hoping to make a change this spring and I really appreciated your thoughts.

I'm with you, Monica~~I don't mind doing laundry at all. I love the smell of fresh clean clothes. I remember one time several years I noticed my husband reaching into his sock drawer. I was thinking how satisfying it is to me to know that he never has to wonder if what he needs will be there, clean and ready to go. At just that moment, he turned to me and said the same thing and thanked me for looking after him so well! That's stuck with me all these years and has given me much laundry inspiration. :-)

Ditto! I also love ironing. I give thanks for my husband's faithful provision for us as I iron his shirts, and his love for us as I iron the sleeves of those shirts. There's something satisfying in restoring order from a pile of chaos.

I remember when I was young Grandad would show us his "magic" sock drawer. He said that it was magic because no matter how many socks he would take out it always stayed full. When I grew older I realized that there was a loving Grandma that was the "magic" behind the drawer! Jessica and I now have the pleasure of filling Grandad's magic sock drawer and find that laundry is a pleasure. We have a loving mother who showed us that laundry is a pleasure by never complaining and always happily filling our "magic" sock drawers!
